HORMONE TALK UK

Earlier in my career as a hormone expert, I focused almost exclusively on diet and fitness alone.

I believed that if my clients ate the right foods, exercised regularly, reduced stress and prioritised their sleep, they'd feel their absolute best.

And for some, that was true, but for others...

Something was missing.

I had clients doing everything right - eating whole organic foods, balancing their macros, avoiding sugar, but...

They still struggled with chronic fatigue, headache, libido, hormonal issues and their skin.

It didn't make sense.

Why were some of my clients thriving, while others were stuck in the cycle and experiencing symptoms?

Then one day, everything changed.

I remember telling a client to remove fragrance from their home.

We had removed the candles, diffusers and we even changed her perfume to an essential oil one.

She said she'd instantly seen a noticeable difference in her symptoms improving, but...

She still wasn't back to 100%.

I went on a mission to find other areas where fragrance would be in her daily life.

Fragrance: The Invisible Toxin

Person with hands on face, surrounded by skincare products.

The huge problem with fragrance is that it's not just one chemical.

It could be a mixture of even 1000 undisclosed chemicals.

Many of them contain phthalates and other hormone disruptors that interfere with our endocrine system.

This can possibly lead to fertility issues, breathing issues, skin problems and even weight gain.

These chemicals don't just simply linger in the air that we breathe, but our skin literally drinks it in.

Our body absorbs a large percentage of what we put on our skin, and then the build up accumulates over time.

And the scariest part?

Most companies aren’t required to disclose what’s in their fragrance.

So, I had to eliminate as many fragrances from my clients lives as possible.

Perfume had been replaced, as were the candles and the diffusers.

Next I hit the cosmetics and body washes.

It was when I targeted the body washes I had my light bulb moment...

‘Washes’.

What about what we wash our clothes with?

The biggest and most surprising offender in the home was...

Laundry detergent.

Why Laundry Detergent Is One of the Worst Offenders

A woman holding a laundry pod with a displeased expression.

Think about it.

Our laundry detergent is not something we use once in a while.

I'm a Mum and a Grandma so trust me my washing machine is one at least once a day.

These fragrances coat every piece of clothing, every towel, every bed sheet, every flannel and every teddy (or in our house it’s a bunny).

Many popular brands of detergents are filled with fragrance chemicals, phthalates and optical brighteners that cling on long after wash cycle ends.

These toxins are in constant contact with our skin all day, even while we're sleeping at night.

But it's not just the fragrance.

Many detergents also contain:

  • DEA & Unnatural Bleaches – Skin irritants that can disrupt the skin barrier.

  • Optical brighteners – Chemicals that don’t actually clean but make clothes look whiter while leaving a residue on fabrics.

  • And even 1,4-dioxane – A known carcinogen.

After learning all this, I knew I needed to find an alternative.

The Search for a Better Option

I tried everything.

“Natural” detergents that still had questionable ingredients…

Expensive organic brands that barely cleaned…

Nothing worked.

Then, one of my clients mentioned laundry sheets.

I'd never heard of them.

After so many failed attempts, you know me, I will give anything a try, so I gave them a shot.

I wasn't expecting anything great to be honest after so many natural detergents had failed.

But after the first wash, I knew I'd found what I'd been looking for.

Why I Switched to Laundry Sheets

Person holding a box of eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets.

When I first tried laundry sheets, like I say, I had my doubts.

The idea of a liquid-free detergent seemed too good to be true.

Especially as these sheets promised to be 3-in-1: detergent, fabric conditioner and stain remover.

But what immediately stood out to me was how easy they were to use—no more messy spills or over-pouring.

Plus the measuring was already done for me - just tear a sheet in half and toss it in.

Beyond convenience, I noticed something else: they actually worked.

Unlike many of the “natural” detergents I had tried, these sheets removed stains just as well as traditional detergents, if not better.

The first load I did included mud-stained leggings and my 5-year olds food-smeared clothes, and everything came out looking fresh and clean.

I even managed to get a set-in lipstick stain out of my light grey carpet!

I tore off a small piece of the sheet, added some water, dabbed first and then scrubbed—and it completely lifted the stain.

The other day I got Tabasco out of my white jeans by doing the same process.

They worked so well because of two reasons:

1) They only used powerful plant-derived and low impact ingredients.

For example, they use sodium citrate which softens the water and active enzymes which break down stains even in cold water.

2) They are over 80% active detergent.

Most liquid detergents that we are familiar with are 60-90% water whereas these sheets are super concentrated.

Another thing I love is that the brand I got these sheets from, Dip, is incredibly transparent with their ingredients.

Unlike other brands where I had to dig through vague ingredient lists or even email the company for details, Dip lists everything upfront.

I even checked their fragrance ingredients against the ECHA hormone disruptor list, and I was relieved to see nothing harmful was included.

The Health Benefits I’ve Noticed Since Switching (For Me & My Clients)

A woman smiling warmly at a baby wearing a green hat.

I have battled with rather sensitive skin for years.

Especially my hands and no matter how many lotions I used - it was still something I had to deal with.

Even as a certified nutrition coach, I hadn't thought about questioning my laundry detergent.

But once I eliminated the toxins, my skin started to repair.

As a mother and a grandma, my biggest priority is ensuring my home is safe as possible for my family.

My kids wear their clothes, sleep in their bed sheets, and cuddle up with their blankets and teddy's.

Knowing that I've removed yet another toxic source from their daily lives, brings me so much peace of mind.

Beyond that, I no longer have to choose between fragrance, cleanliness and health.

For years, I avoided scented products entirely.

But now, I can finally enjoy the fresh scent of clean laundry without worrying about hidden toxins.

In fact, after hanging my daughter's school uniform to dry, my neighbour asked me what washing detergent I was using as it smelt so good.

She also asked how was I keeping her white shirts still white so far into the school year.

That's what a good job they do.

And the best part is I don’t feel like I've had to compromise anything.

I get the same (if not better) cleaning performance, plus all the health benefits, without the mess, without the waste, and most importantly, without the worry.

I want to protect my family and especially my daughter, whose skin is thinner than mine because she's a child and her body is still developing.

Switching to non-toxic laundry sheets was truly one of the best decisions I’ve made for my family’s health.

Is It Worth It?

Yes, of course!

At first, I was worried about the price.

They are a little bit more expensive than regular detergent.

But when I factored in health benefits and all the lotions and potions I'd had to use to tackle my skin irritation AND the fact it replaces multitude of other products such as detergent, conditioner and stain remover, it became an easy swap and a must have investment!

Plus, if you go with the yearly subscription (like I've done), it actually works out to be cheaper per wash than most big brands.
